The UCAN project consultants

Claire Tymon

Claire Tymon is a freelance creative consultant with a wealth of experience delivering public art projects, managing visual arts programmes, devising strategy and policy documents and engaging community and professionals using creative methods.  My passion is to work with creative practitioners including artists, architects, university tutors and students on project delivery, capacity building and skill development activities. I am also interested in collaborating with other professionals to create exciting projects which have a positive and sustainable impact on people’s environments – this can include the environment in which we live, work or learn and/or the natural environment.

Charlotte Derry

Charlotte has worked in the arts and heritage for ten years. She is an experienced arts and heritage project manager working in education and exhibitions, and is a qualified adult teacher. For the past 5 years she has been working in Salford as an exhibition officer and has curated a wealth of both artist and in-house exhibitions. Previous to this she worked in London museums and galleries running Learning and Interpretation programmes and projects. In her current freelance practice she is especially interested in facilitating opportunities for training and enabling access to insipiring and quality environments: Current projects that she is working on include an artist consultation programme for Greenhead Park Playground in Huddersfield, and the delivery of a professional development training programme for the Children’s Workforce.

The Northlight Management Team (Voluntary)

Mary Loney

Mary set up the art college at Todmorden (part of Calderdale College) 17 years ago, and the college now runs Access, HND and BA courses in Visual Art.  She still teaches at Todmorden and is also a tutor for the Back Door courses run at Northlight Art Studios, teaching ‘Art for the Terrified’.  Mary has a wealth of knowledge of artists in the local area and has worked in arts education for nearly 40 years.  She was awarded the OBE for services to art education in 2000.  Mary is also a practising artist, and has recently completed an MA in Painting.  Using her expertise in her field and her knowledge of the local area, she is helping to supervise the activity of the UCAN programme.

Don Myers

Don is the project worker for the Back Door education project at Northlight Art Studios Ltd and is responsible for achieving the funding for the initial development phase of the UCAN programme. He is a practising artist and printmaker, based at Northlight Art Studios.  He also teaches on the Back Door Art courses and at the Square Chapel in Halifax. He has previously worked as a Secondary School Art Teacher, an art tutor and arts administrator. As Northlight’s development worker for three years, he played a key role in relocating the studios to its current premises  and generating funding for its development.

Carole Kirk

Carole is a practising artist, currently studying for the BA (Hons) in Visual Art at Todmorden (Calderdale  College). After 13 years of working in business and management, she decided to develop her creative skills and since 2003 has been in part-time and then full-time arts education.  She is also an experienced Career Coach and facilitator, with experience in leadership and team development and project management.  She is a Board member and Treasurer of Northlight Art Studios, and also works with the management committee for Artsmill gallery in Hebden Bridge.

Responses

  1. Hi, I’m David Parry, President of the Hebden Bridge & District International Group. I have been asked by an Artists group in Warstein (our twin town in Germany ) if any artists from hebden Bridge would like to be part of an exhibition in Warstein in 2012. I need a contact name etc. so I can connect artists in both towns to achieve this.

  2. Could some one please tell me who do I need to contact about joining Hebden Bridge Open Studios 2012. I missed the dead line last year and was a bit upset.
